Who is Alden?
In Santa Monica in November 2000 at the end of the Turkey Run of the Satyrs Motorcycle Club of Los Angeles.
Alden in Santa Monica Alden Spafford, born in 1943 in Stockton, Calif., was named for his maternal grandfather. He grew up in Stockton, and graduated from Stagg Senior High School in 1961.
Higher Education: Alden went to college at the University of California, Berkeley, for 5 years majoring at various times in physics, geophysics, and finally achieving a BA degree in linguistics. He was an active member of the University of California Marching Band during that time. He completed two more years at UC Berkeley in the Graduate School of Business earning a MS degree in Operations Research.
Employment: Alden went to work for IBM in Oakland, Calif., right out of school in 1968, and worked as a Systems Engineer supporting large customers in the Bay Area in mainframe operating systems and hardware for 23 years. In 1991 he joined a newly-formed Network Consulting group in IBM and worked on client projects in the Bay Area involving network migrations associated with datacenter moves and network traffic analyses. During that time he lived in Berkeley, San Francisco, and the Montclair area of the Oakland hills.
Medical Leave: He left work in 1995 on medical leave after almost 27 years with IBM. He currently enjoys a stress-free life with much more free time.
Motorcycling: In 1989 Alden became a motorcycle rider and started riding a Honda Shadow 1100cc bike. After many trips on that motorcycle covering over 137,000 miles, he bought a new Harley Davidson 1999 Dyna Wide Glide 1450cc motorcycle. He continues to attend many events in the leather/motorcycle communities of San Francisco and Los Angeles and regularly travels to weekend runs.
Current Status: Alden is 6'2" tall, weighs 175 lbs., and has a home in the Montclair area of the Oakland Hills. He spends some time at a gym in San Francisco, and you might find him at his favorite beer busts from 3-7pm on Saturdays at The Lone Star Saloon and from 3-6pm on Sundays at The Eagle Tavern.
